Heavy rain leads to mud, which leads me to discover that my boots are cracked. I might as well be wearing sandals. Where does one buy woman size boots these days?

We don't usually get this much rain this early in the year. Is it possible that winter has started three weeks early or is this just an unseasonal whim of nature?

Harvest Kale this morning, then delivery to the local wholesaler. I wonder which restaurant will buy my veg this week.

Harvested runner beans, tomatoes, cucumbers, and lemon cucumbers.

| Planted this in spring, but only now starting to grow and flower. I'm worried it won't be ripe in time for winter. Sep 25, 2011 | |||||

Did you manage to coax your luffa to grow up a trellis? Mine seems rather determined to crawl along the ground. Did you let it dry on the stock? I was thinking that next year,... more » |
The plant climbed a chain-link fence, with some help ( tied it up here and there). I think it's good to keep the fruits off the ground as they grow. I let the fruits dry on the fence.... more » |
The bottoms of the baskets are about 10 foot high, so fingers crossed it will work. The baskets are there to provide shade from the late afternoon sun that heats up the bedrooms. Sadly, I... more » |

Medlars are something out of history books. I never had one before, but the idea of growing one was just too wonderfully romantic to pass up.

| Traditional English favourite. These beans are a family staple. Imagine our surprise when the local high end restaurants started buying them. Now the local grocery store wants some? I worry if we sell all our beans, there won't be any left for us. Sep 25, 2011 | |||||

Sunny morning after the storm. The plants watered by the rain, saves me the trouble. I see one Giant Kale slumped over, hope it's not broken. First I want to enjoy my coffee before a flurry of repairs and harvesting.
|
| Also known as Giant Jersey, walking stick kale can grow up to 10 foot tall by the second year. The leaves average 1/4 pound each, growing sweeter with the first frost. Sep 25, 2011 | |||||

First proper windstorm of the season tonight. Glad for the rain but worried about how the Walking Stick Kale and runner beans will stand up to the wind.
