They are such a pretty shade of purple!  I've never grown them, nor have I seen them growing around here - are they vines?

@SweetDomesticity...: Yes they are big (long) viners ... I've tried to string up something for them to wrap around.  I've only grown them once and I thought "Wow, I'm gonna have the biggest sweet potatoes" because they had vines everywhere.  Well apparently that isn't any indication of how they are doing.  My sister-in-law uses them in planters as decoration.  I don't remember them blooming before but that was my first year gardening so I may not have noticed.

How cool.  They are really fun looking.  I really wish I could have planted some this year, but it is really fun to watch yours grow.  It really is a nice looking plant, I could see using it for decoration in a flower garden.
