a small but important project needing help to rebuild after the storm. Nov 01, 2012
Activity-icon-status

When I came across an article on facebook this morning, I knew exactly where I could share it with those who would understand the importance of a project such as this.  Brooklyn Grange is an urban rooftop farm in Brooklyn, NY whose apiary, along a pier at the Navy Yard, was wiped out from the recent storm surge of Sandy.  Read... ...see more

It's funny since I clicked to look at the beans and my first thought was oooh she has a fire going! I had to dry my beans in the dehydrator to keep them from molding.

Activity-icon-status

Yesterday I finally got around to washing up those root veggies I harvested on Friday before the big frost that killed nearly everything, except for the alpine strawberries, late plantings of lettuce and carrots, and most of the herbs which look just fine.  We also finally got around to dumping out the potato bags, as I nearly... ...see more

Activity-icon-status

Our first real frost is scheduled to hit us tonight with a low of 25...so, I did what I had to do!  Everything has been harvested.  It's gonna look real brown & ugly tomorrow morning...so then the real clean up will begin.  I have some greenhouse plastic on order, which we can hopefully fashion some panels with to modify... ...see more

You pulled a lovely harvest from the garden! There is such variety. The last time I was in 25 degree weather was about 8 years ago in Madison, WI. We might experience a dip that low here in Central Texas o... more »

How fun!  How long does it take to dry like this?  I generally just put it on the dehydrator... but i really think this looks like more fun.
SweetDomesticity replied 7 months ago
And as a bonus, your kitchen will smell wonderful while they're drying!

Well that day has come...the tomato plants were done, exhausted from a wonderfully productive growing year!  We have recently had some cooler nights, but oddly the days are still quite warm & humid even.  But either way, the plants had started to blacken and mold...so yesterday I set about to 'pull' them out.  It was not... ...see more

I'm still so astounded at reading about everyone elses growing season around the country. I guess I took it for granted that everyone had separate seasons/gardens like we do. It has been an eye opening year for sure.
