first potting up

By: veebee

Yesterday we potted up all the little seedlings...the tomatoes especially were starting to look rather spindly...they should be a bit happier now w/more room for their roots. I will pot up again sometime in April before setting them outdoors for short visits & then finally planting in the garden's raised beds sometime in May, after our last frost date...which seems so far away...but I certainly don't want to chance losing any plants!

HOw long did it take for your tomatoes to look like that?

@milliesgarden:  i seeded most of these 3 weeks ago.

@veebee:wow really?  I must be doing something wrong then.  I'm sure its been a couple weeks now and I barely have germination on most of them.

@milliesgarden:  Probably depends alot on conditions, mine were planted on 3/3 and they are getting big, they are not as big as VeeBees.  They really were barely looking like sprouts till just this last week, now they are taking off.  I am sure yours will too. :)

@milliesgarden: with a relatively short growing season...i do all i can to get a good head start on my plants.  my methods & conditions:  i use a heat mat to assist w/germination & be sure to keep the soil well watered during...most sprout w/in 3-4 days.  they are kept under flourescents for 12 hours a day & i begin giving them 1/4 strength nutrient waterings once/week once i see a set of true leaves.hope yours start taking off soon too!happy growing!
