Mystery Tomato.

By: veebee
Jun 28, 2012
So, I'm growing a tomato plant from seeds that were given to my mother from a cousin who passed away last Fall.  She said her family had grown this 'purple tomato' for years and always saved seeds.  I don't know what purple variety it is, exactly...perhaps once the fruit shows up I will be able to identify it, w/your help I hope.  In the meantime, I'm watching the buds form & soon a blossom will open, but I did notice today the blossoms are quite large compared to many other tomato blossoms I've seen...reminds me of a mini sunflower.  Can't wait for it to open!  Stay tuned...

For two years, I tried to grow Cherokee Purples (my gardening buddy loves them & always sends me seeds).  I've never gotten one tomato - she did tell me that they were picky.  I'm not sure about other purple varieties - curious about how yours will turn out.

@vanna516:  when she said purple, my first thought was Cherokee Purple...but searching I did come across some other varieties...so now I'm not sure, but hope to find out!  the plant seems healthy & happy.
