Do you know if it's edible? Did it start out this shape or was it a complete cap that flattened & split as it got older? There are so many varieties of mushrooms and I admire the experts who know which are safe to eat.
@krandolph: I don't know if it's edible...I wish I were more knowledgeable when it comes to foraging! there is a lawn down the road where I noticed quite a few large capped mushrooms (looking like portabellos) growing. I'm not sure what these looked like when they first sprouted, just saw them like this.
